Do you have a man who is completely obsessed with sports, politics, or any other annoying past time that you positively can’t stand? Well you’re not alone. Many women surprisingly report just how boring their significant other really is. Whether he’s on the phone too much, or checking stats online, he just doesn’t seem to be the exciting man you met those many, many, many months ago!
You love him and you want to love his habits, but it’s difficult. Below are a few things you can do to maybe lessen the tension when his dreaded speeches begin.
1. Act interested: Even if you aren’t and he knows you aren’t. I don’t care if you have to think about fuzzy bunnies or your favorite soap opera while you’re pretending to listen. Just sit there, smile, and nod approvingly. Hopefully it will be over soon!
2. Ask questions: Chances are, if you’re not interested in the topic, you know nothing about it. Ask a few simple questions and he will appreciate the effort you are making in getting to know about his passion.
3. Benefit from it: Hey, the least he can do while he’s boring you to death is give you a massage or make you lunch. If you know he’s about to go off on one of his long winded speeches, stop him in his tracks and say, “I’d love to hear about it while you rub my neck.” Or, “Why don’t you tell me about it while you’re making me lunch?” He can babble while you’re off in lala land enjoying that fabulous sandwich or dreaming that Orlando Bloom is behind you rubbing your neck!
4. Bore him back: If none of these tactics work and you just can’t take it any more, start rambling about your best friend’s problems or the neighbors dog. Anything that will SHUT HIM UP! He’ll eventually get the point!
There’s always something you don’t like about your partner, but it doesn’t have to be completely miserable unless you make it. Try to make the best of things and push through the ever so boring topics he loves so much. If you can’t take it, it’s time to move on!
